honorable history

The main deity, Amenohibushi-no-Mikoto, has been worshipped as the god of hemp planting for generations, and is also worshipped in this area, which has a connection with hemp, thanks to the presence of Jingu.
During the Bunka and Bunsei eras, it was called Washinomiya (Washigaoka Shrine), but from around 1893 it came to be called Owashi Shrine.

During the Edo period, Kasuga no Tsubone was highly revered, and when Takechiyo became the third Shogun,

To celebrate this, the Shogun requested that the golden eagle that had been displayed on the bow of his ship as a talisman be donated to the shrine. The eagle is now preserved as a treasure and is known as the god of career advancement and good fortune.
